Welcome to Chris Sturgess-Lief Miniatures.

I was born in 1937 and am a trained artist. For the past 35 years I have been a maker of 1/12 scale miniatures. Everything I sell is made by myself......working in the shed at the bottom of my garden.

The very first miniature I ever produced was when I was a soldier in 1956. As I had a reputation as the battallion artist my sergeant asked me one day if I could make a small-scale cricket bat as he wanted to give one away as a present. I obliged by using a bayonet to carve a piece of wood; and I remember I had to use a strip of shark skin in lieu of sandpaper. The result was very satisfying.

About 12 years later a friend saw some military models I had been making and suggested I try my hand at dolls' house miniatures. I thought I'd give it a go and produced a 'cello, a lute, and a few Victorian toys. To my surprise the new venture took off. My range of miniatures grew, and before long I had several outlets in the UK and a major one in the USA.

Later I discovered miniature fairs and these became my main sales outlet, it was an enjoyable change to get out and meet other 'makers'.

Finally my son persuaded me to fully enter the 21st century and offered to design me a website.

Well, here it is!

The site is simple to use, and very clear. And here you will find and be able to buy everything I make.
